Everything We Do Has a Positive Purpose

All behavior is meant to help us meet our needs. But sometimes our actions cost us more than they benefit us.

Let’s look at the 6 reasons we don’t ask for help.

Fear of Judgment

If I don’t show you my weaknesses, you won’t know they are there. So, you can’t judge me.

I Don’t Know How

If I wasn’t nurtured or mentored as a child, I learned to be self-sufficient. I don’t know how to ask for help.

It’s Easier to Do It Myself

It may be harder to explain what I need, and accept help than it is to ask someone for help.

I Like Control

If you get involved in my projects, your energy and ideas will be in my work. I’d rather be in full control. It makes me feel safe.

It’s Shameful

If I ask for help, it’s like admitting I can’t do it or that I’m a mess. I’d rather crawl over broken glass than to be seen as weak to other people.

I Might Fall Apart

If I take a break, I might fall apart. My stress is all that’s keeping me together.

These Are All Just Stories!

Change Your Story and You’ll Change Your Life

Humans are social creatures. We all need each other. No one can provide all the goods, services, social, physical, emotional, or spiritual things that we need.

We all need help.

Not being able to ask for help makes you an island. And that’s a really lonely way to live.

So consider letting that go.
